Josh Gibcus played his first game of football in more than 15 months on Sunday, as the Richmond VFL side defeated Geelong by five points in a thrilling come-from-behind victory.Playing on managed minutes after recovering from a horror run of injuries, Gibcus got through the game successfully and had four disposals.Gibcus hadn’t played at any level since rupturing his ACL in Round One last year, in just his second game back from a complex hamstring injury. The 22-year-old required secondary knee surgery last year and didn't run for nine months until January this year, due to complications with his rehabilitation.Speaking after the 37-point comeback win, VFL coach Jake Batchelor was glowing in his praise for how Gibcus attacked his rehab, which led to him getting a well-deserved Gatorade shower during the team song.03:56“So proud of him,” Batchelor said.“15 months of just being able to put together lots and lots of work, whether it’s on the field, on the bike or in the gym.“He’s ability to be diligent when there’s things going against him and find a way has been really strong.“The last of the ACL returners and he has done a great job. Tylar Young was there to share the moment with him today.“(I’m) so grateful Gibbo managed to get through.”06:00Batchelor added how Gibcus proved to be vitally important to the team’s structure, as his presence in defence enabled Jacob Koschitzke to swing forward, after Jacob Bauer unfortunately suffered a suspected ACL injury.“Having (Gibcus) there allowed us to send Jacob Koschitzke forward, who was tremendous for us, particularly in the second half,” Batchelor said.The Tigers moved up to sixth on the VFL ladder after the win, ahead of a massive clash with the third placed Southport on Saturday afternoon.
