Alex Morgan has been a defining figure in women's football for the last decade or so.Her work off the pitch was just as important as what she did on it — which in itself included being a treble-winner with Lyon and a two-time World Cup champion with the United States Women’s National Soccer Team (USWNT).Just last month, she became the latest name in a long line of sporting greats to announce her retirement.Morgan’s continued allyship and work to leave football in a better place than she found it is what set her apart over the years. And despite hanging up her boots, the 35-year-old’s hunger to drive the growth of the women’s game is only getting stronger.“From the very beginning in 2013, I thought it was incredibly important for us to have a stable, professional league,” she told Sports Illustrated.“I have put everything I possibly could into it. My time on the playing field [may be over], but my time with the NWSL doesn’t stop here.“I have a lot of things in the works and on the horizon that I hope to be able to share soon.”
