It has been over a month since Ruben Amorim was sacked by Manchester United.

After racking up too many poor results over the course of 14 months, Ruben Amorim was dismissed at Manchester United.

Darren Fletcher initially stood in as caretaker head coach for two matches, failing to record a single win, before Michael Carrick returned to the club on a contract that runs until the end of the season.

Carrick has enjoyed a strong start in the hot seat, winning four of his first five matches and remaining unbeaten.

The recent results mean that United are serious contenders to qualify for the Champions League, though they will need to get back to winning ways soon after Tuesday night’s 1-1 draw with West Ham in London.

There has been a clear improvement not just in terms of results but also in performances under Carrick. If he continues winning football matches, the 44-year-old could make a case to get the job permanently beyond this season.

The 40-year-old had no problem expressing his feelings to the media, especially when he challenged Ineos before his dismissal, but things are very different now.

Amorim is out of work while United enjoy a resurgence under Carrick.

It remains to be seen how long the Red Devils will remain unbeaten, but the former United midfield has already managed a win streak of four matches – one better than the Portuguese coach managed in 14-months.

However, it has been noted how Amorim never wrote a message following his United departure. Not a single acknowledgement to the fans who backed him, win, lose or draw.

Speaking to Off The Ball, respected journalist Andy Mitten revealed what he learned after speaking to people close to Amorim when he asked about the silence.

Mitten added that he believes Amorim should have issued a message to United fans, while acknowledging how David Moyes and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer departed the club by showing respect to those who rallied behind their teams.

“I got in contact, not with him, but I know all the people around him,” Mitten said.

“And I’m like, why is he not saying anything? And they’re just like, ‘that’s just Ruben.’

“But he should. People who paid his wages and supported him massively deserve that.

“When David Moyes left Manchester United, that day I got a text message, that’s what it was then, there was no WhatsApp, Andy, can you just thank the fans on my behalf? There’s nothing polished about it. And it was someone who was hurting. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer did an exit video, which was taking it to the other extreme, but it was actually appreciated by fans. Fans do appreciate that type of stuff.”

Ruben Amorim remains linked with Benfica

Although Jose Mourinho is in charge of Benfica, Amorim has been linked with the job ever since he left Old Trafford.

Benfica have reached the Champions League play-offs under Mourinho, but ESPN believe there is a real chance Amorim could join the club in the summer.

That suggests Mourinho could be on the move again.

It also means there will be plenty of former United managers on the move at the end of the season.
