Liverpool transfer news: Jurgen Klopp speaks out as Arne Slot green lights exit

0
Liverpool remain the only English top-flight side to not make a signing in the transfer window this summer after being snubbed by Martin Zubimendi earlier in the window

No signings yet for Liverpool, but that looks set to change imminently with the arrival of Georgian goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili.

Elsewhere, Liverpool have been linked with manifold names around Europe after the deal for Martin Zubimendi fell through. Marc Guehi has been mooted as a promising replacement for the potentially-departing Joe Gomez, who was left on Merseyside for Liverpool’s opening Premier League clash with Ipswich Town.

The Reds face competition from Newcastle for the defender.

However, Liverpool could see another outgoing player, with youngster Stefan Bajcetic’s future increasingly becoming a subject of speculation.

Below, the Mirror runs through the latest gossip from the last 24 hours.

Bajcetic interest

Liverpool’s Stefan Bajcetic looks likely to be sent out on loan to continue his development, with Slot admitting after watching him in early training sessions that he “needs game time to grow even further”.

Bajcetic was once described by former manager Jurgen Klopp as a "joy" to work with, but the Reds are believed to be willing to sanction a season-long loan for the player with many teams reportedly interested in his services.

According to reports in Spain, Celta de Vigo, Real Sociedad, Villarreal, Las Palmas, Valencia and two unnamed teams in the Premier League are interested in completing a loan deal for the 19-year-old.

Celta de Vigo publicly acknowledged the interest in Bajcetic, with manager Claudio González noting his familiarity with the player having worked together previously.

Koopmeiners interest remains

Liverpool are reportedly still interested in signing Atalanta midfielder Teun Koopmeiners, who has been left out of the Italian side’s squad for Sunday, according to reports.

According to TEAMtalk , the Reds have asked the Serie A club to be kept informed about Koopmeiners' future amid reported interest from Juventus.

Reports in recent weeks have suggested that Koopmeiners seems most likely to sign for the Turin club, despite Liverpool being mentioned as having an interest.

The report states that Koopmeiners has already agreed to sign for Juventus, but that Liverpool still have hope they can swoop in if a move does not materialise.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Koopmeiners is waiting for the club’s decision after a €59m package proposal was sent two weeks ago.

Klopp’s Slot admission

Jurgen Klopp believes Slot is doing a "really good" job since replacing him as Liverpool boss despite the lack of signings. The German also revealed the pair are still in contact.

Klopp stood down as Liverpool manager last summer after almost nine years at the helm, with Slot becoming his predecessor.

The pair have exchanged texts since Klopp’s exit, and the ex-boss said he is a big fan of his replacement’s work thus far

"We spoke one or two times [at the start]," Klopp told ESPN Netherlands. "I think we texted a few more times. But there is nothing I can tell him what he couldn't know himself. Right now from my side, just to give positive feedback in the beginning because we are all human beings and he worked his socks off.

"I know that because the tour is super intense in a year when you have Euros and Copa, you don't have the team together, but they come, you have one week until the first matchday and stuff like that.

"So I think he had similar situation, but exactly the same situation? Definitely not. When I saw the games, that's why I watched it, not to think, oh, how does it look? The work he did was obvious, the ideas obvious. And that's the best you can say about the coach.”
