He's got to go, Atiq doesn't want Pakistan player in power position

Former Pakistan cricketer Atiq-uz-Zaman has called on Babar Azam to resign as limited overs captain and “play as a player”.

Azam’s future as captain remains shrouded in mystery, especially after the team’s disastrous performance in the 2024 T20 World Cup, where they were eliminated in the group stage.

Even before the ICC event, the men in green failed to get the results expected of them. As a result, Atiq feels that the 29-year-old is not the right person to be leading the team.

“Resign from [the] captaincy and play as a player,” he said on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Azam was Pakistan’s highest run-scorer in the T20 World Cup with 122 runs in four matches at an average of 40.66 and a strike-rate of 101.66.

The men in green lost to the United States of America and India before bouncing back to beat Canada and Ireland.

Even though they won their last two group stage games, it was not enough to get them through to the Super Eights.
