Cleared of all charges: Real Madrid player holds nothing back after explicit video case verdict

Real Madrid player Raúl Asenciohas published a statement on his Instagram after being acquitted of disclosure of secrets. The trial against the player and three other footballers in the case involving the leak of sexually explicit images began today.

The two young women who appear in the sexually explicit videos that have put the defender and his former teammates Ferrán Ruiz, Juan Rodríguez and Andrés García in the dock confirmed to the judge this Thursday that they have forgiven the four people involved.

In the end, the forgiveness that the victims formally granted before Criminal Court judge number 5 of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria enabled the Public Prosecutor's Office to withdraw the charge it had brought against all four for the crime of disclosure of secrets. And that forgiveness in fact extinguishes criminal liability for the crime of disclosure of secrets, which leads to the acquittal of Raúl Asencio. After this event, the player wanted to speak out on his social media, where he thanked people for their support and apologized for the drunk-driving incident.

Asencio's statement

Today, after a long time of silence and respecting a judicial process in which I always trusted, I can say that I have been ACQUITTED. And I believe the time has come to share a few words.

During these months I have been through a difficult situation and, at times, I have had to see information and opinions about me being published before the courts had ruled. I understand and respect the work of the media when it comes to informing and giving opinions, but I also believe it is important to remember that behind every news story there is a person and a family who live with the consequences of everything that is published.

I have always trusted that Justice would eventually set things right. Today there is a judicial ruling that speaks for itself, and I receive it with calm and with the satisfaction of being able to close a chapter that has been very important to me.

I don't want to dwell on the noise or the difficult moments. I prefer to hold on to the support of the people who stood by my side and trusted me throughout all this time. I want to sincerely thank my family, my friends, my agent, my lawyers, and all the people who were with me and gave me strength when I needed it most.

I also want to thank Real Madrid and all the people at the club who have shown their trust in me and have allowed me to keep working, growing, and enjoying what I love most: playing football. Throughout this whole process, I have tried to stay on the sidelines, work, and keep moving forward. Today I can do so with the peace of mind of knowing that I always trusted in the truth.

To those who spoke about me during these months, I only ask that, now that Justice has spoken, this part of the story can also be told with the same attention. I do not want to engage in controversy or look back. I want to close this stage with respect, with my head held high, and with a strong desire to keep moving forward.

I also want to refer to an incident related to a drunk-driving offense. I deeply regret what happened and fully accept my responsibility. It has been an experience from which I have learned, and I am very clear that it will not happen again. Now I want to look ahead, keep working, keep growing, and focus on what I like most: playing football.
