College football Week 1: Live updates, schedule, scores, highlights

Indiana's undefeated season is now in the past with the new season here, but the Hoosiers will never forget the 2025-26 title run.

The school unveiled the national championship banner at Memorial Stadium in Bloomington ahead of today's game against North Texas. Take a look:

The Hoosiers already have something worth cheering about in 2026, too, as Nick Marsh made a one-handed catch to make it 7-0 Hoosiers with 13:40 to play in the first quarter.

Welcome to college football Saturday! It's Week 1, which means it's a packed slate of games from noon to past midnight ET.

We'll be here most of the day filling you in on all the action, huge moments, upsets and more across the country. Fifteen AP Top 25 teams are hitting the field today, including defending national champion No. 6 Indiana (vs. North Texas at noon), preseason No. 1 Ohio State (vs. Ball State at 12:30) and Lane Kiffin in his debut at No. 11 LSU (vs. Clemson at 7:30).

But that's not all. We'll get our first look at Arch Manning this season when No. 5 Texas hosts Texas State. And Kiffin isn't the only coach in a new spot looking for a strong start. Matt Campbell leads Penn State against Marshall at 3:30 p.m., Kyle Whittingham at Michigan faces Western Michigan at 7:30 and Jon Sumrall and Florida open their season against Florida Atlantic at 7:45 p.m. Both UCLA (Bob Chesney) and Cal (Tosh Lupoi) have new coaches when the former Pac-12 rivals meet at 10:30 tonight.

Because it's Labor Day weekend, Week 1 doesn't end today. That includes four ranked teams on Sunday (No. 17 Washington, No. 4 Notre Dame, No. 9 Ole Miss vs. No. 24 Louisville) and another on Monday (No. 19 SMU). That means the next AP Top 25 Poll won't be out until Tuesday. The poll will be then out on Sundays going forward the rest of the regular season.

Will we see any FCS upset wins against FBS today? There were four last season, all of them by Sept. 6. There are more than 30 FCS-vs.-FBS matchups on Saturday alone, so there will be opportunities.

Saturday marks the first stacked day of the college football season, but Week 1 has already provided some fun.

UMass ends long losing skid

The biggest shocker of the week so far didn't involved any ranked teams, as UMass surprised Rutgers, 37-21, on Thursday to halt the losing streak at 16 in a row. It was also UMass' first win against an FBS team since beating Army on Oct. 28, 2023.

William “Pop” Watson III had as many touchdowns as incompletions (3) while throwing for 197 yards and rushing for 40 more as coach Joe Harasymiak picked up his first with with UMass. Harasymiak was previously Rutgers' defensive coordinator.

No. 10 Oklahoma, No. 14 USC post shutouts

Both the Sooners and Trojans had little trouble on Friday night, as John Mateer passed for three touchdowns and the OU defense held UTEP to 198 yards in a 51-0 rout.

Jayden Maiava had a huge day for USC, throwing for 349 yards and three scores in a 39-0 romp against Fresno State. Freshmen receivers Trent Mosley and Kayden Dixon-Wyatt both finished with more than 100 yards apiece. The Trojans also held the Bulldogs to only 116 yards.
