Karnataka on Saturday launched work on a new international cricket stadium and integrated sports complex in Anekal taluk, near Bannerghatta National Park, around 24 km from the city centre, in what is being described as Bengaluru's biggest sporting infrastructure push in decades, as per TOI.According to the report, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy CM D K Shivakumar laid the foundation stone for the proposed International Cricket Stadium and Sports Complex at Indlawadi village. The Rs 943-crore project, spread across 75 acres, is being developed by the Karnataka Housing Board (KHB).The cricket stadium will have a seating capacity of 80,000 spectators, making it India's second-largest sporting facility after the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, which accommodates 1,32,000 guests, TOI reported.Beyond cricket, the venue is planned as a multi-disciplinary sports complex equipped with modern infrastructure, advanced training facilities, and international-standard amenities designed to host global sporting events and support emerging athletic talent.Shivakumar described the project as a transformative initiative that would reshape Bengaluru's sporting ecosystem and open new opportunities for aspiring athletes, TOI reported.
