Ex-Liverpool star hails 'Mohamed Salah replacement' after scouting trip

Liverpool are facing the prospect of losing Mohamed Salah this summer and have previously eyed Karim Adeyemi at Borussia Dortmund, who has received a glowing review from Emre Can

Former Liverpool man Emre Can has hailed the capabilities of Karim Adeyemi amid talk he could be heading to Anfield.

The German has excelled at Borussia Dortmund and impressed at RB Salzburg prior to that. He hit a hat-trick in midweek as the Bundesliga outfit hammered Celtic in the Champions League and reports in the Echo claim the Reds could see him as a replacement for Mohamed Salah having watched him previously.

The Egyptian's contract is winding down and, after almost a decade on Merseyside, he could move on to pastures new. It would leave Liverpool needing to fill a sizeable hole in their frontline with Salah their greatest scorer in the Premier League era.

Adeyemi is yet to be prolific for Dortmund but has received huge plaudits from Can, a player who spent four years at Liverpool and played alongside Salah.

“He [Adeyemi] played fantastically,” he told the Bundesliga website. "Not just today, but also in the last few weeks. He plays with more maturity and more determination. That must continue to be his aim.”

Former Dortmund boss Edin Terzic, who guided them to the Champions League final last term, has been equally complimentary with Adeyemi's pace seen as a real difference maker.

He said: "This is the quality of Karim. It was a corner kick and we defended it quite well. It was a dangerous situation but then when you see his acceleration, and this is something we showed him at half-time as well. And this is what he did. His first touch was there to accelerate the game. If you are quick like this then it is going to be very tough for every defence to defend against him. It was a great goal and it was very important as it was the winning goal. I hope that he can continue to perform like this."

Salah himself claimed that this was his final year at the club earlier this season, suggesting there had been no contact over a new deal. The forward has begun the season impressively and is not concerning himself with what happens next summer.

He said: "I had a good summer, a long time to stay with myself and try to think positive, because as you know this is my last year in the club. I just want to enjoy it. I don’t want to think about it, but I feel I’m free to play football and we’ll see what can happen next year.”
