Dominik Szoboszlai responds to Liverpool fans' chants after Man City statement

Dominik Szoboszlai insisted he was too tired to hear the proclamations of Liverpool's supporters that the Premier League title would be theirs after defeating Manchester City.

The Reds midfielder first provided an assist for Mohamed Salah to open the scoring at the Etihad Stadium before they reversed roles to secure a 2-0 victory. Szoboszlai was instrumental in a tireless performance that saw him lay down on the turf when the final whistle was blown.

The win ensured Liverpool now hold an 11 point lead at the top of he table, though Arsenal have a game in hand. Liverpool's supporters were more than happy to take things one step further however.

"We're going to win the league, we're going to win the league. And now you're going to believe us and now you're going to believe us," came the calls from the away crowd on Sunday.

Szoboszlai is not quite so convinced of Liverpool's position but hopes, game-by-game, that the Anfield side can achieve their targets.

"I didn't hear it, I was so tired!" he said following the game. "We have to keep going and Newcastle is going to be a tough game and then 11 more games to go. It never ends so we have to keep calm and keep going and at the end hopefully, we will get there."

While Szoboszlai made his presence felt in an attacking sence, he covered most areas of the pitch as Liverpool completed a league double over City. The 24-year-old was unconcerned by his team's style of play and content with three points.

"We played with two number 10s and they managed the game almost 90 per cent but at the end the result is for us and we are happy to take the three points home," he said.

"We were defending 30 metres from our goal and we gave everything. It is part of the game. Sometimes you don't have the ball and we are happy to take the three points."

Such was his confidence following the match, he was unafraid to even add a little dig to Salah, who stood alongside him in his post-match interview. Szoboszlai was pleased to have received the ball from the Egyptian before he scored.

"It was not the best assist I gave to him!" the midfielder first admitted. "We practiced it yesterday and hopefully, we can do it more times. Finally, he could also find me - it does not happen every time!"
