ATP Montreal Day 4 Predictions

Day 4 at the ATP Masters 1000 event in Montreal will see the conclusion of the second round, with several interesting matches in prospect–including what could well be Gael Monfils’s last ever match in a Canada in a clash of generations against Learner Tien. It will surely be another fantastic day of tennis in Canada.

ATP Montreal Day 4 Predictions

Tommy Paul vs Valentin Royer

Head-to-head: first meeting

Paul has dropped out of the Top 20 after some disappointing results lately but he has an excellent opportunity to make a run here. Royer did beat the 2022 Montreal champion, Pablo Carreño Busta, in the first round, but the Spaniard is very far from those glory days. Under normal circusmtances, Paul should have too much for Royer here.

Prediction: Paul in 2

Jakub Mensik vs Jacob Fearnley

Head-to-head: first meeting

Mensik has been showing some very frustrating inconsistency ever since he broke through last year, alternating some great wins and runs with mistifying losses against much lower ranked players. With that in mind, it’s very hard to predict his match, but if he plays at a solid level he should have the clear edge in this matchup.

Prediction: Mensik in 2

Casper Ruud vs Juan Manuel Cerundolo

Head-to-head: Cerundolo 2-0 Ruud

Cerundolo won this matchup in the Gstaad quarterfinals two years in a row, but he is even more of a clay specialist than Ruud, with no notable results outside the red stuff. On a hard court, Ruud should have a very clear edge in this match and finally get a first career win in this matchup.

Prediction: Ruud in 2

Learner Tien vs Gael Monfils

Head-to-head: first meeting

This is Monfils’s last ever Canada Masters and he already got an excellent first round win. Tien hasn’t been playing well recently, as seen by his loss to Adrian Mannarino last week in Washington, and this has been Monfils’s most successful Masters 1000 tournament throughout his career (more match wins than in any other Masters 1000), so there could well be room for a surprise here.

Prediction: Monfils in 3
