Familiar foe Alexander Zverev stands between Taylor Fritz and a return to the Wimbledon semifinals. Sixth seed Fritz made his debut in the last four of SW19 last year but has to upset No. 2 Zverev in Wednesday's quarterfinal showdown if he's to match (or better) that achievement this year.

That pair of serving specialists are fighting it out for the right to meet either Flavio Cobolli or wildcard Arthur Fery in the next round. Local lad Fery was born in France but grew up in this particular part of south-west London and is looking to make even more history for himself after a huge upset of Grigor Dimitrov in the last 16.

Moving to the ladies' singles, there's arguably no more tantalizing match on Wednesday's schedule than the quarterfinal clash between No. 12 Marta Kostyuk and No. 13 Jasmine Paolini. Former Wimbledon runner-up Paolini came through her war against Alexandra Eala to avoid the same fate as Iga Swiatek but will need another mighty display if she's to make a return to the last four in London.

Finally, Elise Mertens is aiming to follow up her Monday win over Marie Bouzkova by beating one of her Czech compatriots in 21-year-old Linda Noskova. However, the No. 9 seed is liable to put up slightly more of a fight than her lower-ranked countrywoman as she looks to make the semifinals of a Grand Slam for the first time in her career.
