Watford v Bristol City

Friday night’s Championship match sees Javi Gracia’s Watford host Bristol City at Vicarage Road.

The hosts brought the Spanish coach back to the club for a second spell in October following a poor start to the campaign under former boss Paulo Pezzolano.

Gracia’s straightforward approach has brought a mixed set of overall results but he’s brought the fortress vibe back to the home ground.

Watford to win

Watford’s decision to rehire Gracia was a curious one given how his previous tenure ended in September 2019.

The Spaniard led Watford to their best-ever Premier League finish in 2018/19, landing in 11th and reaching the FA Cup final, but the Pozzo family sacked him just weeks into the 2019/20 campaign as they went on to be relegated.

A 1-1 midweek draw at Ipswich Town is Gracia’s first away point since returning but he’s won both home matches – against West Brom and Middlesbrough.

Home form will be key for Gracia and Watford as they try to climb the table, and another home victory will keep Vicarage Road rocking, against a Bristol City team who have won just one of their last three away ties.

Both teams to score: Yes

Watford’s last four games have seen the Hornets keep just one clean sheet despite Gracia’s reputation for keeping things tight in defence.

They have conceded an average of one goal per game, split across those four outings, and that will be a cause for concern.

Bristol City lost 1-0 at Blackburn in midweek and that was the first game in which Gerhard Struber’s team had failed to score in eight matches.

Imran Louza to score or assist

Watford captain Imran Louza has really stepped up since Gracia’s has come in by scoring in each of the last four games.

The Morocco international is now on to six goals for the season, his best return in a single season at Watford, despite campaign only in November.

He is carrying a constant threat bombing forward from midfield and three of those four games have featured two shots on target by the former Nantes man.

Watford over 1.5 cards

From 14 Championship games played so far 2025/26, Watford have picked up 27 yellow cards, at an average almost exactly two dished out per game.

They have also registered 162 fouls, at an average of 11.5 per 90 minutes, and Gracia likes his teams to be aggressive.

In their last three matches, Watford have picked up two or more cards each time, including a red for James Abankwah in the 3-1 loss at Coventry back in October.
