NFL star Kris Boyd is fighting for his life in hospital after being shot. Boyd, 29, is understood to have been wounded during a shooting in Midtown Manhattan, New York at around 2am on Sunday.

The cornerback - who plays for the New York Jets - was rushed to Bellevue Hospital, where he's in a critical but stable condition, according to the New York Post. Police say that no arrests have been made and the shooting, which took place on West 38th Street near Seventh Avenue, remains under investigation.

Boyd is reported to have been shot in the abdomen outside Sei Less restaurant after a dispute turned violent, as the gunmen fired two shots. It's said that the shooter fled the scene in a BMW X8 SUV.

Authorities didn't identify Boyd as being involved but reports have named him. The 29-year-old moved to New York this year after making his name ahead of the 2019 season.

Boyd was a seventh-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. He played for the Minnesota Vikings from 2019 to 2022 before spells with the Arizona Cardinals and the Houston Texans.

Having signed a one-year deal with the Jets earlier this year, he was placed on injured reserve in August with a shoulder injury. New York aren't in action this weekend, having played on Thursday.

Born in Texas, Boyd was a talented track and field athlete at his local high school in Gilmer. At colleage, he was a defensive back for the Texas Longhorns.

Kris' brother, DeMarco, is a former linebacker for the Longhorns. Two of Boyd's cousins, Bobby Taylor and Curtis Brown, also played in the NFL.

Back in January, Boyd made headlines for an incident during the Texans' clash with Kansas City Chiefs. After the first play of the game, he took his helmet off, ran to the sidelines and shoved special teams coach Frank Ross and was criticised for his behaviour by his own fans.

Boyd responded after receiving backlash by saying: "That's not in my character. I love everybody here. I love my coaches. I never disrespect anybody. I love Frank.

"I'm a God-fearing man, I respect everybody... It was a little 10-second thing that happened. It's football. I never disrespect anybody. That's not my character... I was just too excited, and did something I shouldn't have done. Keep my helmet on."
