Arsenal complete Deadline Day deal as Gabriel Jesus exit confirmed

Gabriel Jesus' move from Arsenal to Barcelona on Deadline Day has been made official.

The two clubs reached an agreement for the Brazilian over the weekend and confirmation of the transfer followed on the final day of the window.

Jesus has joined Barcelona for £12.9m including add-ons, with a sell-on clause included in the deal.

He flew in on Monday and posed for photographers outside the airport, before the 29-year-old watched from the stands as Barcelona cruised to a 5-2 win over Rayo Vallecano.

Speaking after that match, Barcelona manager Hansi Flick spoke of his excitement at bringing Jesus to the club.

"I was a little surprised we had the opportunity to get him," Flick said.

"I really love him, I like his style to play football, it fits with our style. I think he can help us a lot in the games.

"For us, he can be an important [player], so thanks to [sporting director] Deco because again he made an excellent job."

Arsenal were demanding £20m for Jesus at the start of the summer but they have been forced to significantly drop that asking price.

Jesus was one of the club's highest-paid players and there was therefore a limited market for the Brazilian, particularly considering his history of serious knee injuries.

He also only had one year left on his contract, and the club decided to prioritise getting his wages off the books rather than holding out for a bigger fee.

Jesus had been training away from the first-team as Arsenal looked to find a move for him in the final days of the window.

Barcelona were in the market for a striker after the summer departures of Robert Lewandowski and Ferran Torres.

With Kai Havertz, Viktor Gyokeres and even Mikel Merino ahead of Gabriel Jesus in Mikel Arteta's plans, Jesus made only three Premier League starts last season.

His move to Barcelona ends a four-year spell in the capital in which he made 123 appearances and scored 32 goals.

The forward departs England as a five-time Premier League champion across his time at Manchester City and Arsenal.
