Nottingham Forest vs Crystal Palace, Evangelos Marinakis, Nuno Espirito Santo, Ange Postecoglou news, rumours

Ange Postecoglou continues to be linked to the Nottingham Forest job as the Premier League club's manager attempted to walk back comments regarding his strained relationship with owner Evangelos Marinakis.

Nuno Espirito Santo's stocks should be sky high after the Portuguese coach guided Forest to seventh in the league last season and into European football for the first time since 1995.

Forest have also made a good start to the 2025-26 campaign, sitting fourth on the ladder after Monday's (AEST) 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace.

Before that match Nuno said "there is no smoke without fire" when asked about reports he was about to get sacked.

Marinakis is a billionaire Greek shipping magnate who also owns Olympiakos.

He is not afraid to express his opinion on football matters and he has been linked with possible moves for Australian free agent Postecoglou, Celtic's Brendan Rodgers and Fenerbahce's Jose Mourinho.

Marinakis' appointment of Edu Gaspar as Forest's global head of football is believed to be at the centre of the rift.

"The truth is we have to speak, and we will do it this week," Nuno told reporters at Selhurst Park.

"This is the truth, and we will try to create a better platform moving forward."

The 51-year-old was asked directly about the axe hovering over him.

"Absolute nonsense. Absurd. This narrative, it's absurd," Nuno said, while admitting he was unsure whether he would still be in charge when the transfer window closes next week.

"I cannot answer that question, but what I know is that I am working and trying to do my job the best I can.

"Of course, the situation has to be solved and we are responsible people. We can have a good conversation to create a good platform for what is more important, the team.

"We're going to have it. We must. We need to have this conversation and we will have it. This is what I think is more important than anything."

Postecoglou was sacked by Tottenham Hotspur in June after leading the club to the Europa League title.

In July Marinakis gave Postecoglou, a proud Greek-Australian, an award for becoming the first Greek manager to win the Europa League.

Palace fans weren't afraid to make their feelings known about Forest during the draw.

Palace, the FA Cup winner last season, were demoted from the Europa League to the Conference League last month for breaching UEFA rules on club ownership, in a saga the club believes was influenced by Marinakis, who benefited by being promoted to the Europa League at Palace's expense.

A spicy pre-match banner took a pop at Marinakis, as did some abusive chants from Palace's notoriously boisterous supporters that also targeted UEFA.

Ismaila Sarr gave Palace a 37th minute lead before Callum Hudson-Odoi equalised in the 57th for Forest.
