Last Updated:March 25, 2026, 18:32 ISTMumbai Indians traded Arjun Tendulkar to Lucknow Super Giants ahead of the IPL 2026 auction and signed 8 players (3 via trade deal) for this year's IPL.Five-time champions Mumbai Indians will start as one of the favourites for the Indian Premier League (IPL) title in 2026. The Mumbai-based franchise has a very strong batting unit featuring the likes of Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, Ryan Rickelton and Quinton de Kock and an equally potent fast bowling attack led by Jasprit Bumrah. They also have some of the finest all-rounders in the form of Hardik Pandya, Mitchell Santner, Will Jacks, Sherfane Rutherford and Corbin Bosch, among others.MI finished in the top four last year and managed to qualify for the playoffs, but Punjab Kings crushed their dream of winning a record-extending sixth IPL title in the 2nd qualifier match on June 1 in Ahmedabad. This year, with some new signings, MI have managed to assemble a strong squad which many believe (like Michael Vaughan) is capable of winning the title. Here’s a look at the complete list of changes in MI’s squad for IPL 2026 from the 2025 edition:IN: Mumbai Indians signed three players – Shardul Thakur, Sherfane Rutherford and Mayank Markande – in the trade deal ahead of the IPL 2026 auction and then secured the services of five players in the player auction held on December 16, 2025, in Abu Dhabi. In the auction, MI signed South Africa’s Quinton de Kock for his base price of Rs 1 crore and four uncapped Indian players for Rs 30 lakh each. None of the four uncapped players signed by MI in the auction have played for them in the past, but De Kock was part of MI from 2019 to 2021, and he played a big role in the team’s title wins in 2019 and 2020. West Indies’ batting all-rounder Rutherford was also associated with MI in IPL 2020 when they won their fifth title, and Markande played in the IPL for MI in 2018, 2019 and 2022.Traded (IN)Sherfane Rutherford (from Gujarat Titans)Shardul Thakur (from Lucknow Super Giants)Mayank Markande (from Kolkata Knight Riders)Signed in IPL 2026 auctionQuinton de Kock (Rs 1 crore)Danish Malewar (Rs 30 lakh)Atharva Ankolekar (Rs 30 lakh)Mayank Rawat (Rs 30 lakh)Mohammad Izhar (Rs 30 lakh)OUT: MI released as many as eight players from their IPL 2025 squad ahead of the auction and traded Arjun Tendulkar to Lucknow Super Giants in an all-cash deal.
