Man City goalkeeper completes transfer exit - 'has shown his quality'

Young Manchester City goalkeeper True Grant has left the club on a permanent deal after impressing on loan last season.

Manchester City goalkeeper and England youth international True Grant has left the Etihad to join Stoke City on a permanent deal.

Grant, 19, spent last season on loan at Buxton in National League North, helping the club reach the play-offs and impressing in his first taste of senior football, with 10 clean sheets in 40 appearances.

The son of former goalkeeper Lee Grant, who was a popular figure at Stoke City in his playing days, True was an FA Youth Cup winner with City in 2023/24, playing every game in the competition and keeping a clean sheet in the 4-0 win against Leeds United in the final.

He made 14 appearances for the club's Under-21 team in Premier League 2 and made the bench once for Pep Guardiola's side, in the 3-2 Champions League win at Red Star in a group stage dead rubber in December 2023.

But having moved to City from Derby County at the age of 12, Grant has now joined the Potters and will seek to force his way into the first-team picture at the Championship leaders.

“True has shown his quality at Manchester City and during his loan spell at Buxton, and he is regarded as one of the most promising young goalkeepers in the country,” said Stoke City sporting director Jonathan Walters.

“Darren Behcet was keen to bring him in as part of a strong goalkeeping unit with Viktor Johansson, Jack Bonham and Frank Fielding, with Tommy Simkin also excelling whilst out on loan.

“His dad, Lee, was a hugely respected player here and a fantastic person too. We’re delighted to welcome True into the Stoke City family, and I’m sure he knows what it means to wear the badge.”
