Emiliano Martinez looks teary-eyed after win over Spurs - as Unai Emery delivers verdict on Aston Villa goalkeeper's future amid links with summer move away

Unai Emery would not be drawn on the future of Emiliano Martinez after the Aston Villa goalkeeper was visibly emotional following the 2-0 win over Tottenham.

Mail Sport reported earlier this month that Villa may consider offers for Martinez this summer, with the club likely to make a significant sale before June 30 as they – like many clubs in England’s top flight – seek to stay in line with Premier League spending rules.

Winger Leon Bailey appeared similarly moved when the players thanked the supporters not long after the final whistle.

Asked about Martinez’s demeanour and whether this could be his last appearance for Villa at their home ground, Emery said: ‘Now we are focused on the match we are playing, of course. It is the last match here, and I don’t know.

‘We will see about the team, the players, but of course, they are responding on the field at the moment. They are responding and are focused on how we are preparing and playing each match.

‘Of course, Leon Bailey is playing less because I know everybody is responding very well. They are performing well. And we are going to play Manchester United on May 25 for the last three points available this season.

He waved at fans on what may have been his final ever Villa Park appearance

Unai Emery refused to discuss whether Martinez will be moving on or not this summer

‘For us it will be very important again, for everybody to be focused. And of course, then we will see about everything, how we are going to try to get better for the next season, when we come back.’

Villa know a win at Old Trafford might not be enough to secure Champions League football, after Chelsea overcame United at Stamford Bridge on Friday.

Though Villa and Chelsea are level on points, the Blues have a much better goal difference.
