Doubts emerge on if Bayern Munich’s Jamal Musiala will truly regain his form after devastating injury vs. PSG

When Bayern Munich announced that Jamal Musiala had undergone a successful surgery amid reports that the young attacker was looking at a 4-5 months timeline to return, there was a sense of acceptance mixed with a little bit of relief that things were not worse.

Whether or not Musiala can fully regain his form, though, is up for debate.

Speaking with OLBG, expressed some doubt about Musiala’s ability to get fully back to his world class form. Dr. Rajpal Brar, a doctor of physical therapy, a strength and conditioning specialist and a movement and mechanics coach sports scientist, dove into the complexities of the issue.

“Jamal Musiala has suffered an ankle fracture, a dislocation. This fracture typically refers to the fibular bone which is the outer lower leg bone that starts near the knee and travels down to the ankle — the knob on the outside of the ankle is the ‘head’ of the fibula,” Brar said. “Dislocation results from tearing and rupturing of ankle ligaments resulting in the oddly shaped angle of the foot and ankle that you graphically may have seen on video. Barring any nerve, artery or vein involvement, the typical return timeline is around 6 months; Musiala could return near the turn of the new year.

“At that point, he would still need gradual and methodical ramp up time and bounce matches to get back to previous form. That four to five month ramp up period would likely be enough time for him to participate in the World Cup although I wouldn’t expect him to be fully back to previous form.”

It should be noted that Dr. Brar is not working with Musiala and that he is providing an expert opinion from the outside. The exact specifications of Musiala’s injury, recovery, and rehab are all only known by Bayern Munich and the medical staff working on Musiala at this stage.

Dr. Brar has a Doctorate of Physical Therapy (DPT) from Northern Arizona University, specializes in lower body rehabilitation with a focus on football, basketball, tennis and more.

Bayern Munich star Jamal Musiala will be out for months and now the club could be on the lookout for some help. Will Vincent Kompany and Max Eberl looking to lean on internal options or take a gander out at the transfer market for the attacking midfield position? Things just got more difficult, especially when considering the team’s No. 1 priority is at left-wing and a close No. 2 could be center-back. Let’s talk about how it might all play out on this edition of the Bavarian Podcast Works Show. You can get the podcast on Patreon, Acast, Spotify, any leading podcast distributor, or below:
