Rishabh Pant is India’s first-choice wicketkeeper-batter in Test cricket, and in the ongoing five-match series between India and England, he has impressed with his batting performances. The 27-year-old stumper scored twin centuries (134 and 118) in the series opener played at Headingley in Leeds from June 20 to 24 and registered scores of 25 and 65 in the second red-ball match played at Edgbaston from July 2 to 6.

During his stay at the crease in the second innings of the second India-England Test in Birmingham, the bat slipped away from Pant’s hand on multiple occasions, and so before the start of the third India-England Test at Lord’s, Pant was asked about the reason why the bat keeps slipping out of his hand.

Replying to the question asked by former India wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik for Sky Sports, Pant said that he doesn’t have any specific reason for the bat slipping away from his hand.

“See, for me personally, I don’t think about that, not to throw away my bat. But at the same time, you know, when I’m in the moment, it just happens with me, man. Moment happens, everything happens. I’m not too focused in making how it’s happening, rather than just letting it flow," Pant said.

During the conversation, Karthik also asked Pant about how he plans his game and quizzed him about the thought process as well, to which the vice-captain of India’s Test team said, “See, generalised, when I’m sitting out, I watch a few balls, make a generalised plan, and then see how the wicket is playing and all. You know, while sitting outside, you know how the bowlers are bowling, how they are planning, and how the wicket is playing. Once you get hold of that, sitting outside, then obviously playing a few balls, get the feel of the wicket, and make a basic plan to work it around."
