Dom Howson says Sheffield Wednesday man is 'going all the way to the top' after Bristol City

Journalist Dom Howson was particularly impressed with one Sheffield Wednesday player vs Bristol City.

Sheffield Wednesday drew 0-0 with Bristol City in the Championship on Wednesday night, marking the Owls’ first clean sheet since the opening day of the season.

And for Danny Rohl, it’s also a first away point of the season, with the point leaving Sheffield Wednesday in 19th place of the Championship table ahead of the weekend.

There were some good and some bad performances at Ashton Gate; in particular, Owls fans were critical of Ike Ugbo.

The striker simply couldn’t get into the game and looked lost and isolated up front on his own, eventually being replaced by Michael Smith.

Elsewhere, Di’Shon Bernard impressed as he returned to the XI following his suspension, and James Beadle shone in goal.

The England youth international made three saves on the night and prevented 0.79 goals per Sofascore, earning praise from fans on social media and from Dom Howson on X.

James Beadle shines for Sheffield Wednesday against Bristol City

Sheffield Wednesday re-signed Beadle during the summer transfer window, with the 20-year-old joining on a season-long loan following his impressive spell at Hillsborough in the second half of last season.

He’s had a mixed season so far, though. Fans have been critical of Beadle at times, with his passing game exposed in one or two games.

But Beadle has worked on that. And he remains a quality shot-stopper too, pulling off some really good saves to help earn Sheffield Wednesday a point against Bristol City.

Howson said of Beadle after the game:

James Beadle can become a Premier League no.1

The Brighton man is very highly-thought of in the game. Beadle was training with the England senior team during last month’s international break, and could well be in contention to become Brighton’s no.1 next season.

Right now, though, he’ll be fully focussed on playing regular football for the Owls, and on working on his all-round game.

He was loaned to Wednesday because they like to play out from the back and because they were likely to face a lot of shots this season, so Beadle would get tried and tested.

He’s shown improvements from last season. But he still has room for improvement, mainly with his composure on the ball in games against teams who’ll really press and press.
