Nine players retain their places from last year, but how does the overrall 2025/26 team shape up?

Goalkeeper

Jasbir Singh continued to lead from the back as Tamworth vice-captain, keeping eight clean sheets across the campaign and helping the Lambs claim a top-half finish in the 2025/26 National League.

Defenders

Asmita Ale makes her fourth consecutive Team of the Season appearance after a solid individual campaign. Ale played 21 Women's Super League matches across the season for Leicester City.

Danny Batth rolled back the years to play an important role for unfancied Derby County last season as the club narrowly missed out on the play-offs on the last day of the season, finishing eighth in the Sky Bet Championship.

Kam Kandola had the most productive season of his career to date, playing 38 matches in a campaign where Kidderminster Harriers clinched promotion to the National League via the play-offs. Kandola has joined Hereford ahead of the new season.

Mal Benning regained his place in Shrewsbury Town's line-up after the mid-season appointment of Gavin Cowan. Benning went on to make his 500th professional career appearance and helped the club preserve its League Two status.

Midfielders

Millie Chandarana became an 'Invincible' for the second consecutive season, featuring prominently as Burnley went unbeaten in the league to land the title and earn promotion to Women's Super League 2. Chandarana has just signed a new deal.

Hamza Choudhury played 32 matches for Leicester City in a difficult league campaign for the Foxes but sparkled on the international stage, scoring on his home debut for Bangladesh and instantly becoming a national hero.

Zidane Iqbal appeared in the Dutch Eredivisie and the Europa League for FC Utrecht in a season where he scored his first international goal and became the first British South Asian ever to play at a World Cup, featuring in all three of Iraq's games over the summer.

Forwards

Yan Dhanda emerged as a key player for Dundee following his loan switch from Hearts, featuring in 31 matches for the club and helping the Dee comfortably retain their place in the Scottish Premiership next season.

Mariam Mahmood had a fairytale season as she made her international debut for Pakistan ahead of clinching a move to Wrexham. The club won a historic league and cup double as Mahmood became the first Pakistani female to win a top-division European title.
