Ravindra Jadeja achieves massive milestone

The impeccable consistency shown by Jadeja in the Anderson and Tendulkar series has taken him past Gary Sobers to become the player with the most 50-plus scores in England while batting at No.6 or lower. Moreover, Jadeja has toppled VVS Laxman’s longstanding record by becoming the Indian with the most runs in a series playing at No.6. Laxman amassed 474 runs in the away tour against the West Indies in 2002. Jadeja on the other hand, finished the series with a total of 516 runs.

Jadeja’s presence proved to be crucial for India in every Test of the series. Despite the collapses, India attained a respectable total in every Test, and Jadeja had a lot to do with it. He stood out as the lone warrior for India in the Lord’s Test and had kept India’s hopes alive until the end. His valiant effort at the home of cricket will always be seen in good light and may go down as one of the biggest what-ifs.

While he was left stranded at Lord’s, he got the ideal support from Washington Sundar in Manchester, and on the back of a scintillating partnership between the two, India sealed an epic draw at Old Trafford. The innings of 53 concluded his campaign with the bat. However, it was again his contribution that brought India to a winning position in the Test.
