ROHIT, SURYA ENTHRALL VIDHAN BHAVAN

Both Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav spoke in Marathi during the felicitation function. Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar acknowledged Rohit Sharma's reaction, saying the entire country would have been disheartened had Suryakumar not taken the catch in the final over.

The felicitation took place in the Central Hall in the presence of legislators and assembly staff. Captain Rohit Sharma and team was honoured with Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s statue.

Rohit Sharma was referring to the crucial catch that Suryakumar Yadav took in the final over of the big final in Barbados on June 29. Suryakumar held his nerve and made an extremely difficult catch look easy with a sensational balancing act along the boundary rope. With 16 needed from the last 6 deliveries, David Miller hit a low full-toss from Hardik Pandya toward the long-on boundary. It looked like the ball was travelling beyond the boundary cushion, but Suryakumar ran toward the long-off region and completed the catch.

After David MIller's wicket, South Africa's hopes of chasing down the target went up in smoke. The Proteas, who had needed just 30 from the last 5 overs, lost the final by 7 runs.

Suryakumar's catch was likened to the one Kapil Dev took in the 1983 World Cup final to dismiss West Indies great Vivian Richards. Even Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his breakfast with the T20 World champions in New Delhi on Thursday, spoke about the catch in the final over.
