Bradford City linked with Manchester United's Ethan Wheatley

They are set to bring in Manchester United teenager Ethan Wheatley, according to a report on X from respected football source Pete O’Rourke this afternoon.

The T&A understands nothing has been finalised as yet but it appears to be progressing.

Wheatley has been on loan in League One at Northampton for the first half of the season – and faced the Bantams in a goalless draw in August.

He made 25 appearances, with 20 league starts, and scored three goals.

The 6ft 2in 19-year-old joined Walsall last January and made his Saddlers debut from the bench at Valley Parade in City’s 3-0 win.

United recalled Wheatley from Northampton on Monday, feeling he would benefit from a move elsewhere.

Cobblers boss Kevin Nolan, who described Wheatley as a "really good athlete", admitted he had not anticipated United's decision.

He said: “We are disappointed Ethan has been recalled but we are proud of the work we have done with him and believe he leaves us a far better player than he arrived.”

Interest in taking Wheatley is said to be high but it is claimed that City have won the chase.

But fans may have to wait a bit to see him in action.

Wheatley is currently nursing an ankle injury suffered against Huddersfield that has kept him out for the last couple of games.

It has been a busy day in the market for City, who have announced the loan capture of Newcastle duo Joe White and Harrison Ashby to go with the earlier arrival of Oxford’s Louie Sibley.

Cook made his anticipated exit yesterday to join Grimsby. Alex Pattison was last week sold to Walsall.
