Michael Shields lands coaching role with Muskerry club

Michael Shields has landed a coaching role on Leeside for the year ahead.

The 2010 All-Ireland winner with the Cork senior footballers is part of Clondrohid's new management ticket for the 2025 campaign.

Shields will be the coach of the Muskerry side with Kevin Hourihan, Michael O'Leary and Seán O'Shea the selectors.

It’s expected that the 38-year-old will also stay playing for his beloved St Finbarr’s.

Shields was previously a selector with the Cork minor footballers under Micheál ‘Haulie’ O’Sullivan last year.

Clondrohid have struggled to make a serious impression in the Mid-Cork JAFC for many years, but they have a nucleus of a good young crop of players at the minute with the hope that Shields will get the best out of the group.

Clondrohid have only won the Muskerry JAFC on one occasion, which was back in 1995, but they do have two Cork SFC crowns to their name, when they did back-to-back in 1891 and 1892. They also won Munster honours in 1891.

Clondrohid did enter Duhallow for a short period, winning their divisional JAFC in 1940 and 1942 before returning to Muskerry in 1945.

Clondrohid’s football history is a long and proud one, the first club in Muskerry to capture a Munster title.

In the 2025 Ross Oil Muskerry JAFC group stage, Clondrohid will take on Aghinagh, Grenagh and Kilmichael.

Before that, the team in blue and white are in the EPH Controls Muskerry Division 1 football league as they look to lay the foundation for the year ahead. They host Grenagh on Saturday at 4pm.
