Trent Alexander-Arnold has handed Liverpool an injury boost after Arne Slot confirmed he could return from injury away at Leicester City on Sunday. The defender has missed the Reds' last four matches with an ankle injury having been forced off in last month's Champions League defeat to Paris Saint-Germain.

The 26-year-old remains out of contract at the end of the season and is considering an offer from Real Madrid when his current deal expires. Alexander-Arnold remains Liverpool's only senior player out of contract after Virgil van Dijk joined Mohamed Salah in signing a new two-year extension.

Slot sidestepped questions about the England international's future ahead of Sunday's clash with Leicester - but confirmed Alexander-Arnold could make his comeback on the bench against the Foxes following his recent return to training after injury.

"I think you would be surprised if I answer differently now than I've answered for the whole season," the Dutchman said of the defender's future. "It's nice that we've already done two announcements and we can talk about that for hours.

"But if you want to talk for hour to me about Trent, for hours it is the same answer. We don't talk about these things as long as they aren't done. And they aren't, which is why we don't talk in public about his situation.

"Trent is coming back from an injury and trained with us yesterday. Every time he plays with us and trains with us, he shows his commitment. He's worked so hard to be back already now.

"And the moment he is on the pitch, he shows me what a great footballer he is. How much he is involved in us trying to achieve our goals this season. He's worked so hard during the whole season and now during his rehab to be back with the team again.

"The fans of Liverpool, everyone who watches football for the last five, six or seven years, knows he is an incredible full-back for this football club, so let's see what the future brings."

Asked about his fitness, Slot added: "(He's) not (ready) to start. But if things go well today and tomorrow, he might - might - be on the bench. But definitely not to start because he's been out for five weeks.

"Today is probably first session with the team. Wednesday he did parts of the team session. So he is not able to start but hopefully he can be able to join us.

"For Conor (Bradley), he has been out a long time as well so it is not easy for him to play 90 as well. So it'll be nice if Trent is with us during the weekend, yes."
