Mushfiqur Rahim continued his strong run in Test cricket by scoring his 14th Test hundred during Day 3 of the second Test against Pakistan at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on Monday. With the century, Rahim went past Mominul Haque to become the Bangladesh batter with the most Test hundreds. Playing his 102nd Test match, Rahim reached the landmark with a boundary off the third ball of the 85th over bowled by Mohammad Abbas. The crowd at the stadium applauded the veteran batter, while his teammates also stood up in the dressing room. During his knock of 137 in the second innings, Rahim also completed 16,000 international runs and became the first Bangladesh cricketer to achieve the milestone. He now has 16,058 runs across all three formats. The 39-year-old is already Bangladesh’s leading run-scorer in Test cricket with 6763 runs. His innings in Sylhet included 12 fours and one six. Bangladesh have now set a target of 437 runs for Pakistan in the second Test. The hosts are aiming for a clean sweep in the two-match series after winning the first Test in Dhaka by 104 runs. Rahim had also contributed in the opening Test by scoring 71 in the first innings and 22 in the second innings. Having retired from T20Is in 2022 and ODIs in 2025 after the ICC Champions Trophy, Rahim is currently playing only Test cricket. He also has 29 half-centuries in the format. Earlier in the match, Bangladesh were asked to bat first and scored 278 in their first innings, helped by a century from Litton Das. The wicketkeeper-batter made 126 at a strike rate of 79.25 with 16 fours and two sixes. For Pakistan, Khurram Shahzad picked up four wickets, while Abbas took three wickets. Pakistan replied with 232, with Babar Azam scoring 68 off 84 balls in his comeback Test. Sajid Khan also added 38 runs with four sixes and two fours. For Bangladesh, Taijul Islam and Nahid Rana took three wickets each. Taskin Ahmed and Mehidy Hasan Miraz shared the remaining wickets as Bangladesh secured a 46-run first-innings lead. Bangladesh will now look to take the remaining 10 wickets over the next two days to win the Test and complete a series whitewash at home.
