Manchester United stance on Casemiro decision after Matheus Cunha plea

Casemiro scored his ninth goal of the season for Man Utd in their Premier League win against Brentford and then got emotional at full-time.

Michael Carrick has told Manchester United supporters to make the most of Casemiro's farewell after confirming there was no chance the 34-year-old would be offered a new deal to stay at the club.

The Brazilian scored his ninth goal of a brilliant farewell campaign in their win against Brentford and was again serenaded by chants of 'one more year, Casemiro' by the Stretford End.

The injured Matheus Cunha added his voice to those calls on social media at full-time, but Carrick said there was no possibility of a U-turn from either side, with just four games of the season remaining.

Asked if his future was definitely settled, Carrick said: " It’s pretty clear. From both sides, it’s pretty clear."

He added: "Case’s had an influence within the group. He's got huge experience, he's a big player, he's achieved an awful lot in the game, and I have to say, since I've been here, he's given everything that he could possibly give.

"The situation's probably helped that, knowing exactly where it's at, there's nothing to hide and he's thrown himself right into it. It's football, you know, it's football.

"Some players have come and gone, players have come and left this football club over the years and you've got to evolve and you go with that.

"That's kind of the world we're in, but he's definitely given everything and I think it's nice that he's got that connection with the supporters and it comes from both ways because I know he's an emotional guy and it means a lot to him."

Casemiro hugged Kobbie Mainoo when the final whistle blew on United's 2-1 win against Brentford, which all but guarantees a return to the Champions League next season.

He kissed the badge after scoring his early goal, celebrated wildly when winning a late free-kick and then looked emotional on a lap of honour after the game.

"I think it's pretty clear how much it means to him, and probably the situation and the clarity of it has helped everything to be so open and understand, for the supporters as well, for him, for everybody," said Carrick.

"It means a lot to him and credit to him because of the situation that it is, he's given absolutely everything as well and had some big moments for us so all round it's quite a nice kind of direction for it to be taken."
