"[We're] really thrilled with Nathan's game," Bailey said. "Over the last 12 or 15 months, seeing a player whose growth is on a great trajectory, very organized, composed player at the crease, and got a game that will really suit Test cricket. I think he's wonderful person. He's clearly had some good leadership exposure now, good catcher, bowl's some good off spin too. So the package is really impressive."

Who is Nathan McSweeney

Nathan McSweeney is a right-handed batter and a part-time right-arm off-break bowler, representing South Australia in domestic cricket. The 25-year-old has been making significant progress at the first-class level, showcasing his potential as a reliable top-order batter.

McSweeney appears certain to play, with Bailey saying: "Nathan has displayed the attributes we believe will equip him well for Test cricket along with a strong recent record in domestic cricket.

"His performances for South Australia and Australia A weighed in his favour and supports our view he is ready for the opportunity at Test level.

With an impressive first-class batting average of 38.16, McSweeney has already notched up six centuries and 12 fifties, accumulating 2,252 runs in the format. His prowess extends to List A cricket, where he averages 42.25, having scored 845 runs, including a century and eight fifties in just 22 matches.

In addition to his batting contributions, McSweeney has proven to be a handy bowler. He has picked up 18 wickets in first-class cricket, seven in List A, and four in T20s, demonstrating his versatility across formats.
