A few days earlier, she turned heads in an eye-catching red minidress with black gloves, sunnies, and a bold red lip while watching her daughter during her US Open practice session.

Here’s everything you need to know about Naomi Osaka’s fashionable mum, Tamaki Osaka.

What is Tamaki Osaka’s background?

Tamaki grew up in Hokkaido, Japan, and met her husband, Leonard Francois, when she was graduating from high school and he was a university student in Japan, per People.

The pair dated for several years, keeping their relationship secret until Tamaki’s father tried to set her up for an arranged marriage. Tamaki and Francois, who is from Haiti, later relocated to Osaka together after Tamaki’s father disapproved of their relationship.

They welcomed their two daughters, Mari and Naomi, in 1996 and 1997 respectively. Tamaki and Francois decided to give their daughters Tamaki’s maiden name “Osaka” for practical reasons while living in Japan.

The family later relocated to the United States to give their daughters better tennis training opportunities, according to People.
