Rays' Bigge carted off after being struck by foul ball in dugout

Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Hunter Bigge was carted off after being struck by a foul ball while in the dugout during Thursday's game against the Baltimore Orioles at George M. Steinbrenner Field.

The incident occurred when Orioles catcher Adley Rutschman lined Connor Seabold's slider into the Rays' dugout, where the ball hit Bigge. Players from both teams appeared shaken as staff immediately attended to him.

After being treated and having his neck stabilized, Bigge gave a thumbs-up to the crowd before being carted off the field.

He was stretchered off the field and gave a thumbs up as he exited.

The Rays' broadcast reported that Bigge was taken to a Tampa hospital for further evaluation. Manager Kevin Cash said he was conscious and undergoing tests.

"Yeah, I mean, I saw it off my bat. It's really, really scary," Rutschman said after the Orioles' 4-1 win, according to Danielle Allentuck of the Baltimore Banner. "Praying for him and for his recovery and hope he's doing OK. ... It's scary."

Bigge, 27, was acquired by the Rays from the Chicago Cubs in a trade for Isaac Paredes at last year's deadline. The former 12th-round draft pick has been on the injured list with a lat strain since early May.
