Darragh Newman has been called up to the Cork senior football panel for the 2026 season.The St Finbarr’s netminder has been rewarded for his brilliant club form over the last number of seasons. The Togher club won the McCarthy Insurance Group Premier SFC in October.It was the Barrs' first time winning the Andy Scannell trophy in four years with Newman a key part in that success.Newman will join up with John Cleary’s team providing competition for the No 1 jersey as he will battle it out with Micheál Aodh Martin and Patrick Doyle.There was a vacancy in the goalkeeping ranks after the departure of Chris Kelly in recent weeks. The Éire Óg shot stopper is going traveling in January.He was the first-choice goalkeeper for much of the 2024 season, but fell down the pecking order this year behind Martin and Doyle.Newman is in his third campaign as No 1 with St Finbarr’s as he replaced John Kerins in between the sticks.His immediate focus is on St Finbarr’s with the city club facing Clonmel Commercials on Saturday in the AIB Munster Club SFC quarter-final in Clonmel (1.15pm).
