Manchester United will need to raise funds to continue their summer spending

After spending £80million in the early part of the transfer window, Manchester United will need to be smart during the remainder of the summer. Further recruits will be needed but there's also a chance to raise funds with some sales.

United have already got some big wages off the books. Casemiro and Jadon Sancho both left upon the expiry of their contracts, Rasmus Hojlund joined Napoli permanently, and Andre Onana will have most of his salary covered by Trabzonspor during his loan.

After wrapping up deals for new midfielders Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos, one more central midfielder may well be required. Michael Carrick will also want reinforcements up front to deal with the extra matches in the schedule compared to last season.

A summer exit for Manuel Ugarte may need to be parked after the Uruguayan picked up an injury at the World Cup but there are still other ways to raise money. Here, we've taken a look at some players who can help bring in those funds.

Marcus Rashford - £40m

For a while it looked as though United were set to lose Rashford for just £26million after a clause was inserted into his Barcelona loan. However, the Catalan club allowed it to expire after moving for Anthony Gordon earlier in the window.

That could be a blessing in disguise, with Rashford potentially worth more on the open market. The England forward showed at the World Cup that he can still perform on the biggest stage, scoring in the group stage against Croatia and laying on a goal for Bukayo Saka in the third place play-off.

Selling Rashford could be the key to whether or not another left-sided forward arrives at Old Trafford this summer. However, Carrick may yet opt to reintegrate the academy graduate.

Joshua Zirkzee - £30m

Things haven't quite worked out for Zirkzee since he joined from Bologna in 2024. The Dutchman still has a strong reputation in Italy, though, with Juventus remaining keen even after dismissing ex-Bologna boss Thiago Motta.

Zirkzee is under contract until 2029 and still just 25 years of age. He has shown a willingness to stay and fight for minutes despite a lack of game time under Ruben Amorim but is one of the more obvious candidates when it comes to bringing in a decent fee.

Radek Vitek - £10m

Backup goalkeeper Vitek has already expressed a desire to play elsewhere next term. "I feel great and ready to go again somewhere to be, hopefully, number one, so we will see. We will see what is going to happen," he said.

The Czech stopper impressed on loan at Bristol City last season and is ready for another loan or a permanent departure. While it might be tough to bring in too big a fee, United will surely aim to include a sell-on and/or buy-back clause for someone whose path to a starting spot at Old Trafford is blocked.

Altay Bayindir - £5m

The arrival of Karl Darlow, coupled with a new deal for Tom Heaton, suggests time's up for Altay Bayindir. The Sun reports that the Turkish international has been given an extended break ahead of an expected summer exit.

A move to Besiktas has been floated for the 28-year-old, who last played in the Premier League in September. He has one year left on his deal at Old Trafford but United still have a chance to get a return on their investment after paying a little under £5m in 2023.

Toby Collyer - £3m

Young midfielder Collyer made a handful of Premier League appearances in the 2024/25 season but spent last season out on loan - first with West Brom and then with Hull. The Tigers could yet move for him permanently after winning promotion via the play-offs, though BBC Sport reported in June that United were yet to make a decison on the player.

Collyer, like Vitek, is a player who the club might decide should be sold at a reasonable price but with a sell-on clause included. He has one year left on his contract, though there is an option to extend it until 2028.

Tyler Fredricson - £2m

Fredricson is believed to be nearing a summer exit already. Transfermarkt values the defender at around £2m and he appears to be ready to move in search of the regular football he needs at the age of 21.

Celtic are among the clubs linked with a swoop, having seen a January approach put on the back burner when the centre-back picked up an injury. He was left out of the squad for Saturday's match against Wrexham and BBC Sport suggests a move could be close.
