Alex Eala defeats Bulgarian foe, sets up faceoff vs. Swiatek in Madrid Open

World no. 72 Alex Eala opened her campaign in the Madrid Open on a high note as she defeated Bulgaria's Viktoriya Tomova, 6-3, 6-2, in the tournament's Round of 128 on Tuesday in Spain.

Tomova is ranked eight places higher than the 19-year old Filipina tennis star in the world rankings.

With the win, Eala will face Iga Swiatek in the Round of 64.

Eala and Swiatek previously faced in the Miami Open where the former pulled off an upset against the world no. 2 in the quarterfinals of the United States tourney.
