Viktor Gyokeres sends new Ruben Amorim message as Man United learn £69m transfer twistLatest Manchester United transfer news as Viktor Gyokeres speaks out about Ruben Amorim amid a potential move to ArsenalRuben Amorim and Viktor Gyokeres after a Sporting CP match (Image: PA )Viktor Gyokeres is now in advanced negotiations to complete a transfer to Arsenal, but the Sporting CP striker has broken his silence following this latest twist to talk about his relationship with Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim.United have been tied to Gyokeres in rumours throughout the summer so far with the Manchester Evening News understanding a new striker signing is of high priority. The club have already bolstered their attacking ranks with new No.10 Matheus Cunha's arrival whilst a deal is still being worked on to sign Brentford's Bryan Mbeumo. With his 97 goals in two seasons for Sporting, Gyokeres is one of the most prolific options on the market. The prospect of him slotting back into Amorim's system with new teammates at Old Trafford has excited supporters.Gyokeres appears to be bound for Arsenal instead but praising his former boss Amorim, the 27-year-old told France Football via L'Equipe: "We won two championships in a row, for the first time in 71 years. It's an incredible achievement, and of course, Ruben Amorim played a big role in that."I can't thank him enough. The style of play we had under his orders suited me perfectly."The comments towards the United manager have been teased as part of a wider interview arriving this weekend though the timing of their release is intriguing.Article continues belowArsenal are accelerating towards striking a potential £69m deal with Sporting for the Swedish international. It was initially reported that the Gunners would be able to convince Sporting to part with the forward for a lesser fee but that no longer appears to be the case.A report from Portugal had previously put Gyokeres' reasons for 'snubbing' the notion of working with his former manager as down to financial differences, the lack of ability to offer European football and the 'greater sporting risk' involved with making the move to United. So if all goes to plan, Gyokeres would be making his Premier League debut on Sunday, August 17 at Old Trafford, for the visiting Gunners against United.Gyokeres' time working with Amorim came to an end last November when he made the switch from Sporting to United only months into the 2024/25 campaign. For that, the striker says he holds "no resentment.""It was a shock. It's never happened to me to see a manager leave in the middle of the season when everything was going well."Yes, it was surprising, but I totally understand his decision."Here at The Manchester Evening News, we are dedicated to bringing you the best Manchester United coverage and analysis.Make sure you don't miss out on the latest United news by joining our free WhatsApp group.
