Joe Buck Reportedly Lands $100M+ Contract to Continue as Voice of ESPN's 'Monday Night Football'

Having just started the final season of his original ESPN contract, Joe Buck has landed a new deal that will keep him as the play-by-play voice of Monday Night Football.

Per The Athletic's Andrew Marchand, Buck has agreed to a six-year extension with the network that will pay him "in the neighborhood" of $108 million.

The $18 million average annual salary for Buck on his new deal puts him in a tie for third among all NFL broadcasters. He is also the highest-paid play-by-play announcer.

Buck spent 27 years at Fox from 1994 to 2021 when he did play-by-play for the network's NFL and MLB coverage. He became the lead announcer for MLB coverage in 1996 and for NFL coverage in 2002 when he replaced Pat Summerall.

ESPN signed Buck to a five-year, $75 million contract in March 2022 to make him the voice of Monday Night Football.

The move to ESPN reunited Buck with longtime partner Troy Aikman, who joined the network on a five-year, $90 million shortly before Buck's deal. They originally started working together as the No. 1 team on Fox's NFL coverage in 2002 as part of a three-man booth with Cris Collinsworth.

After Collinsworth joined NBC Sports prior to the 2005 season, Buck and Aikman became a two-man broadcast team.

With Buck's deal in place that ties him to ESPN through the 2030 NFL season, it will be interesting to track Aikman's next move. Michael McCarthy of Front Office Sports wrote in August that both men are represented by CAA, which is known for "packaging talent, shows, and properties it represents."

The six-year contract for Buck ensures that he will be on the call for ESPN's two Super Bowls during that span. This season marks the first time since the 2005 season that ABC will has broadcast rights for the Super Bowl.
