Liverpool have signed highly-rated Belgian teenage goalkeeper Lucca Brughmans on Deadline Day in the Premier League.

Premier League giants Liverpool have reportedly spent $56.7million AUD to land the 18-year-old wonderkid from top-flight club Genk in Belgium.

Brughmans, who has signed a long-term contract at Anfield, will return to Genk on loan for the remainder of the 2026-27 season.

“Very happy and grateful,” said Brughmans. “A huge step and an incredible opportunity.

“I’m proud, excited and looking forward to what lies ahead at this historic club, with the dream of one day wearing the shirt and playing at Anfield.”

After 32 appearances for Genk’s reserve team, Brughmans made his senior debut in April 2026.

Brughmans – one of the most talked-about talents in European football – retained his position for the rest of the campaign, making 10 further appearances in the league.

This season, Brughmans has started all four matches for Genk so far.

Having captained Belgium at both the Under-17 European Championship and U17 World Cup in 2025, he is now skipper of his nation’s U19s squad.
