Afghanistan Cricketer Ihsanullah Janat Receives 5-Year Ban From ACB For Violating Anti-Corruption Laws

The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) announced on August 7 (Wednesday) that top-order batter Ihsanullah Janat has been banned from all cricket activities for five years due to being found guilty of corruption charges. The suspension is effective immediately. The ACB reported that Janat violated the anti-corruption codes of both the ACB and International Cricket Council (ICC) during the second edition of the Kabul Premier League in 2024.

At 26, Janat had appeared in three Tests, 16 ODIs and one T20I for Afghanistan since his debut in 2017. Janat was found guilty of breaching Article 2.1.1 of the ICC Anti-Corruption Code, which deals with efforts to improperly influence or fix any aspect of a match, according to a statement from the ACB.

"Janat was found guilty of violating Article 2.1.1 of the ICC Anti-Corruption Code, which involves improper influence or efforts to fix the result, progress, conduct, or any other aspect of a match. In light of this violation, he has been handed a five-year ban from all cricket-related activities. Janat has admitted to the charges and confessed to his involvement in corrupt activities," ACB said in a statement.

Three More Players Under Investigation For Corruption

The ACB has announced that three other players are under investigation for match-fixing. Ihsanullah Janat's five-year ban is effective immediately.

β€œThe ACB Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) has revealed that three other players are also under suspicion for involvement in match-fixing, and investigations are underway. Decisions regarding their involvement will be made upon confirmation of their guilt. The ban on Ihsanullah Janat takes effect immediately with the release of this statement and will remain in place for the next five years.” the ACB statement read further.
