India wicketkeeper batter Ishan Kishan opened up about why he opted for a break despite being a regular member of the India team in all three formats of the game. He stated that he wasn't feeling well and no one understood what he went through.

A few months ago, Ishan Kishan was one of the key members of the Indian team in all three formats of the game. The keeper-batter performed incredibly well for the team and it's fair to say that he sealed his spot in the team but things changed drastically for him.

Ishan Kishan after the white-ball series against South Africa opted for a break from the Test series and since then he hasn't played a single game for the Indian team in any of the three formats. The keeper-batter, who played the ICC World Cup 2023, opted out citing fatigue.

But after that, he reportedly was seen partying and attending the TV show without the permission of the BCCI. The keeper-batter was then told to play domestic cricket to make a comeback in the Indian team by head coach Rahul Dravid but he didn't agree and continued spending time off the field.

This didn't go well with BCCI as they removed the keeper-batter from the central contracts. Ishan Kishan then made a comeback in the IPL but he didn't have the kind of impact he would've wanted. Even his comeback in the Indian team seems too far away from now.

While talking about why he opted to take a break, Ishan Kishan stressed that getting benched after playing regularly made him experience travel fatigue. He said that this forced him to take a break but only his close ones understood him. Speaking to Indian Express, he stated:

"I was scoring runs and then I found myself on the bench. These things do happen in a team sport. But I experienced travel fatigue. It meant there was something wrong, I was not feeling well or right and so I decided to take a break. However, sadly, barring my family and a few close people no one understood that."

Ishan Kishan was also asked about getting axed from the central contracts and replying to that he stated that he doesn't want to be sad about it and that he will keep giving his best. He elaborated:

"I don’t want to be sad about anything. I’ll keep giving my best."

It was not easy for me at all - Ishan Kishan

Ishan Kishan also talked about the challenges that he faced in the last 6 months. He stated that he felt depressed and it wasn't easy for him to come out. He concluded by saying that a lot of questions popped up in his mind as well. He stated:

"It was depressing. Today I don’t want to say that everything was fine. It was not easy for me at all. You go through a lot. Mere dimag mey ye sab chalta raha ki yaar kya hoga gaya, kyu ho gaya, mere saath kyu (Questions like what happened, why me). All these things happened when I was performing."

Ishan Kishan now would be keen to make an impact in the upcoming domestic season for Jharkhand. It remains to be seen what will be his future in the Indian team.
