An early goal in Cardiff - and the hosts lead!

It is a welcome breakthrough for the beleaguered Bluebirds. The goal itself is the result of a lovely move.

Chris Willock cuts inside and Jack Moylan helps it around the corner to talisman Yousef Salech, who returns the ball into the path of the onrushing Moylan. He finishes superbly beyond Arthur Okonkwo in the Charlton goal.

Lyndon Dykes buys a cheap free-kick off Kyle Walker-Peters for the home side down their left flank.

Jenson Metcalfe, him again, swings in a decent ball but the referee spots a foul by a Millwall player and blows up in the away team's favour.

Jenson Metcalfe has the first shot of the game as Millwall move the ball forward down their left and the ball comes to the former Bradford midfielder 20 yards out.

It's a clear sight but he rushes his effort and it dribbles through to Mads Hermansen in the Hammers goal.

I arrived early at the Den, thought it wise, but all was calm and peaceful on the way to the ground through London Bridge and South Bermondsey.

That may not still be the case right now. The occasional sustained wave of noise is drifting on the breeze into the west stand from the general vicinity of the approach to the north stand, which this season is divided into home and away fans across two levels.

It's a lovely September afternoon, the conditions are perfect for football and Lions boss Alex Neil has made a big call, he's dropped keeper Max Crocombe in favour of handing Filip Marschall his league debut, with No1 Lukas Jensen still out injured.

Millwall make change in goal; Walker-Peters in for West Ham

Millwall give a first league start to goalkeeper Filip Marschall after he joined from Stevenage on deadline day. Other than that it's the same team that started the 2-2 draw with Middlesbrough on Tuesday.

West Ham boss Nuno Espirito Santo makes one change from the XI that started the 6-0 demolition of Wrexham in the Championship last Friday. Joel Veltman is injured so Kyle Walker-Peters, who got two assists in that game after coming on for Veltman, is in.

Warming up, in every sense

Good morning from The Den as old foes Millwall and West Ham renew their rivalry after more than 14 years apart.

The locals have their first chance to stretch their vocal chords as the West Ham players head out for their warm-up.

Jarred Bowen leads the way and applauds the travelling fans in the far corner. The vast majority are yet to arrive, however.

Absence makes the heart grow fonder?

We're in PROPER derby territory here.

This will be the 100th meeting between these east London rivals but their first since February 2012.

Fourteen years for Millwall fans to stew over a 2-1 defeat at the old Upton Park/Boleyn Ground when the Hammers prevailed despite playing 81 minutes with 10 men after Kevin Nolan's very early red card.

The Lions come into this in mixed form after a run of just one win in their past five games but they haven't lost on home turf to their dear friends since December 1988.

West Ham have started to click through the gears impressively after a bit of a false start and have won their past four league games, including bashing Wrexham 6-0 last time out.

Another victory today would see them win five league games in a row for the first time since February 2006.

Stoke unchanged; Norrington-Davies makes Blades XI

Stoke City's Lamine Cisse prepares for his 150th senior career appearance as part of the side's unchanged starting line-up.

Among the substitutes are Sam Gallagher and Junior Tchamadeu, who are on the mend following their respective injuries.

Rhys Norrington-Davies' own goal in the Carabao Cup in the midweek has not deterred Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder from giving him a start for today's match.

He's one of two changes with Jamal Baptiste also in the XI in place of Sam McCallum and Mark McGuinness.

Tahith Chong is named on the bench as he makes his return from injury.

Unravelling Blades visit strengthening Stoke

Stoke City have weathered the early storm and now look on course to be the promotion contenders they were hoping to be after a productive transfer window.

But for visitors Sheffield United, things couldn't be more different.

The Blades' transfer plans suffered big disruption due to their off-field issues and as the fans call for more answers from the owners, more and more questions keep arising on the pitch.

In midweek, the side suffered a bruising loss to League Two's Fleetwood Town to exit the Carabao Cup and boss Chris Wilder was livid with those he felt didn't take their chance to shine.

It looks like the manager has lost trust in some of his players and the fans are losing theirs rapidly with the club as they brace for whatever the Bet365 Stadium will throw their way.

Cardiff and Charlton both unchanged

Both Brian Barry-Murphy and Nathan Jones have opted to stick with the XIs they sent out last Saturday, as they do battle in the Welsh capital this lunchtime.

Karlan Grant, who returned to Charlton Athletic this summer seven years after leaving The Valley, revisits one of his former loan clubs - the attacker scored six goals for Cardiff City while on loan from West Brom in 2023-24.

Krystian Bielik, a Cardiff summer signing, is another player featuring against a former club - he continues in central defence.

The Bluebirds remain on the lookout for their first league victory of the season and must muster a response having suffered a dramatically late defeat to Bolton Wanderers last time out.
