Premier League sides are continuing to work away in the transfer market, despite the summer window slamming shut earlier this week. After a record-breaking period of spending, with Arsenal, Manchester United, Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham all busy, there is still business involving English sides. Arsenal endured a quiet Deadline Day, with Julian Alvarez remaining out of reach, but are now anticipating a busy January.

Chelsea had one of the most dramatic finales, selling Enzo Fernandez to Manchester City for a British-record-equalling £125m. The Blues had agreed a deal for Lamine Camara to replace him, only for Monaco to pull the plug, but now Atletico Madrid midfielder Pablo Barrios, who could cost €100m, is said to be the new target for January.

Tottenham signed Mykhailo Mudryk and Tosin Adarabioyo on Deadline Day, and are now in talks with Trabzonspor to sell Richarlison, who turned down a move to Everton. He has been omitted from their Premier League squad but has until 10pm UK time tonight to agree a move to Turkey. Follow all the latest transfer news, gossip and rumours live below!

Iraola breaks silence on Gakpo exit talks

Andoni Iraola hailed Cody Gakpo’s professionalism after he helped Liverpool a 2-0 defeat of Ipswich following the close of a transfer window in which he came close to leaving the club.

The Dutchman was in fine form on Friday night as he assisted both of Alexander Isak’s goals at Portman Road.

But, to turn the clocks back a week, it seemed there was a good chance Gakpo might not have been a Liverpool player this season. Ahead of Tuesday’s transfer deadline, he was heavily linked with moves to Tottenham and Manchester City.

Iraola insists the player’s situation was in hand as Deadline Day approached. He said at his pre-match press conference: “My relationship with Cody has been very honest from the beginning. He was always aware of the situation in the market, we were constantly talking.”

Moyes: I have never spoken to Dan Friedkin

In a surprise revelation, David Moyes has explained that he has never spoke to Everton owner Dan Friedkin.

It comes after the club endured a dismal transfer window which has left the Scot with just 18 senior players in his squad.

He said: “My real contact is Angus [Kinnear, chief executive]. Angus is the one who I would go to see. Rishi is the next one and then the head of the Friedkin family in America.

“I don’t really get any direct conversations with them, but I do through Rishi, he is the one I would speak to.”

Pressed as to whether he had ever spoken to Dan Friedkin, he said: “No.”

Mudryk debut incoming...

When Tottenham CEO Vinai Venkatesham took to LinkedIn this week to discuss the club’s summer transfer window, he described the “months of scouting, analysis and planning” that went into overhauling a squad that came within a hair of being relegated to the Championship last season.

Indeed, Spurs started breathlessly in the transfer market, quickly identifying and convincing targets to buy into Roberto De Zerbi’s project.

A concerted plan was ruthlessly executed, and the rest of the Premier League took note as the north Londoners twice broke their transfer record to sign Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali.

However, as the deadline edged closer, panic seemed to set in.

De Zerbi, Venkatesham, and sporting director Johan Lange were left scrambling for market opportunities before landing on a Deadline Day loan deal for Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk.

In a summer in which the club prioritised Premier League-proven talent, they ended up securing the services of a player with just five goals in 53 top-flight appearances.

Add to that the fact that Mudryk has not played a competitive match since November 2024 due to a doping ban, and it is fair to say Spurs have taken a risk in helping to rehabilitate the Ukrainian’s career.

Arsenal's January transfer targets

Arsenal had a relatively quiet summer of spending, but are reportedly set to come back into the market in January.

Per reports in the Independent, they could reignite their interest in Julian Alvarez, Vinicius Junior and Bournemouth’s Eli Junior Kroupi.

Martinez adopts new shirt number after one appearance and John Terry blessing

New signing Emi Martinez has switched to the No1 shirt at Chelsea.

The new signing from Aston Villa has been awarded with a kit number that indicates he is Chelsea’s undisputed new first-choice goalkeeper.

That is despite initially choosing the No26 and remarking that the legacy of Chelsea legend John Terry in that shirt partly explained why.

But the decision has now been made to award Martinez with No1, and he has been pictured holding the shirt with his new number for the first time.

Xabi Alonso explains 'next phase' of Chelsea plan for life after Enzo Fernandez

Xabi Alonso insists “phase one” of Chelsea’s rebuild is complete and it is “time to move forward” without Enzo Fernandez.

Chelsea produced a club-record sale on transfer deadline day when they pocketed £125million as Fernandez finally made his long-awaited move to Manchester City.

Fernandez had made it clear he wished to leave Chelsea, and had serious interest from City all summer as his former head coach Enzo Maresca wished to reunite with his namesake.

Alonso said he was pleased with Chelsea’s transfer window, which saw them break their own British transfer record for sales as well as signing 10 new first-team players including £117m Morgan Rogers.

“I think that it's a very balanced structure, phase one, that we have made in this transfer window with what we had and where we are now,” Alonso said on Friday.

“It's a good first one. Phase one is completed. It's a good one for now and for the future.”

Moyes quashes reports of Chelsea bid

David Moyes has strenuously denied reports claiming Chelsea made an eleventh-hour bid to sign James Garner on Deadline Day.

The final hours of Chelsea’s transfer window were markedly chaotic. They thought they had secured a deal to sign Monaco’s Lamine Camara as they scrambled to replace Manchester City-bound Enzo Fernandez, but saw their plans dashed as the Ligue 1 side pulled out of negotiations at the last.

After the fact, it was reported by some outlets that Chelsea had made a late attempt to bolster their midfield options with the versatile Garner, but Moyes has quashed those claims unequivocally.

Asked to verify the rumour, he declared: “What was said was completely untrue, so I don’t know where that’s come from. There’s no truth in that whatsoever.”

Arteta issues Arsenal transfer window verdict after two huge snubs

Mikel Arteta has insisted he is satisfied with how Arsenal approached the summer transfer window.

The Gunners wanted to make a marquee signing in attack after identifying the left wing as a position that could be significantly upgraded.

Arsenal were recruiting from a position of strength as Premier League champions but they fell short in adding to the forward line as planned.

Vinicius Jr and Julian Alvarez were targeted and Arsenal played the waiting game with both, only for the pair to decide to stay in Spain.

A move for Morgan Rogers also did not materialise, with Christos Tzolis the only signing made in attack.

Speaking after defeat in the Champions League final in May, Arteta demanded that Arsenal be "very ambitious, very fast and very smart" in the summer window.

Asked if he felt those words had been put into action, Arteta declared: "Yeah. 100% ticked.

"The outcome after can be different to what you expect but the intention is certainly there. In my opinion, that's what I value most."

Pressed on whether that intent was as important to him in showing ambition as completing transfers was, Arteta added: "Yes because it doesn't depend on you only."
