Ryan Giggs has revealed how he tried to convince Elliot Anderson to sign for Manchester United in the summer.

Anderson was subject of a transfer tug-of-war between Manchester City and Manchester United in the summer, with the midfielder eventually signing for City from Nottingham Forest in a £116m deal.

The 24-year-old emerged as one of the most in demand players of the summer window, following an excellent season at Forest and key role in England's 2026 World Cup campaign.

Anderson was a central figure as the Three Lions finished third in North America, a best-ever World Cup performance on foreign soil.

Giggs has revealed how a chance meeting with Anderson on a golf course saw him 'pepper' the England international in an attempt to convince him to move to Old Trafford.

Speaking to Rio Ferdinand Meets, he said: "I saw Elliot Anderson. I peppered him. He didn't know how to take it at first, and then he relaxed a little bit.

"For the first four or five holes, we were literally crossing and at the end of it he was just like 'will you leave me alone and just let me play my golf please?'"
