Former Pakistan captain Azhar Ali has joined the Scotland men’s cricket team support staff as a consultant for their upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 (CWCL2) tour of Nepal, beginning May 12.

Azhar, who played 97 Test matches and 53 One-Day Internationals for Pakistan national cricket team, will work alongside Scotland head coach Owen Dawkins during the tour. Scotland will face both Nepal national cricket team and United States national cricket team in the series.

Speaking about his appointment, Azhar said he was excited to reconnect with Scottish cricket and work with the national side.

He also highlighted his long-standing connection with the country, having spent six seasons playing professionally for Huntly Cricket Club in Aberdeenshire during the early stages of his career.

“I am really looking forward to linking up with the Scotland team, especially since I have an association with Scottish cricket going back many years from my early playing days,” Azhar said.

“I’m excited to start working with what is clearly a talented team and looking forward to helping them to progress on this tour.”

The Nepal tour is an important one for Scotland as they continue their push to qualify for next year’s ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup global qualifier. Scotland currently sit second in the CWCL2 standings behind the USA.
