Bowls: First defeat for Putul Sonowal

Putul Sonowal’s unbeaten start to his debut CWG campaign is over.

Malaysia’s Izzat Dzulkeple makes it three wins in as many games as he defeats the Indian 2-0 (8-4, 9-8).

Sonowal will next face Shaun Parnis of Malta tomorrow at 7:15 p.m. IST.

July 25, 2026 20:28

And the win is more or less confirmed for the Malaysian

Putul manages to get just one point from the sixth end, making the score 5-9.

The Indian can only draw this set and that won’t be enough.

July 25, 2026 20:22

Dzulkeple shows his class

An extraordinary fifth end from the Malaysian as he takes it 4-0 and increases his advantage to 9-4.

Putul Sonowal has a lot of work to do now.

July 25, 2026 20:18

Putul fights back

Putul Sonowal comes up with a big performance in the fourth end, taking it 2-0 and reducing the gap.

Dzulkeple leads 5-4 with three ends to go.

July 25, 2026 20:12

The gap increases

The official was forced to bring the measurement tape out before deciding the Malaysian had won the third end 2-0, taking his lead to 5-2 in the second set.

July 25, 2026 20:02

Dzulkeple continues to dominate

The Malaysian bowler is on a roll. He takes the first end of the second set with a 3-0 scoreline. Fantastic performance so far.

July 25, 2026 19:59

Putul loses the first set

Not the ideal start for Putul Sonowal as he drops the first set 4-8 to Malaysia’s Izzat Dzulkeple.

July 25, 2026 19:55

Disastrous sixth end for Putul

The Malaysian bowler wins the penultimate end 4-0 and seals the set with an unassailable 8-3 lead.

Tough one for the Indian.

July 25, 2026 19:50

Deficit reduced further

Brilliant fifth end from Putul as he gains two more points and makes it 3-4.

Two ends to go in this first set. Can he complete the comeback?

July 25, 2026 19:46

Putul opens his account

The Indian wins the fourth end but gets only one point.

Dzulkeple still leading 4-1 with three ends to go in this first set.

July 25, 2026 19:38

Dzulkeple increases lead

Putul was well placed to get at least one point and win the second end but with his third attempt, Dzulkeple turned the tide.

It’s 2-0 to the Malaysian after two ends.

And it gets even better for the former World No. 1 as he adds two more points to his tally after the third end - 4-0.

July 25, 2026 19:35

Lead for Malaysia's Dzulkeple

Dzulkeple’s first attempt hit the jack and took it away from Putul’s opening attempt which was a good one.

The Malaysian bowler wins the first end and takes a 1-0 lead.

Remember, since it is singles format, there are seven ends in one set.

July 25, 2026 19:30

July 25, 2026 16:02

Parity restored

Brilliant team play. Pinki guides Rupa regarding where to aim and on her second attempt, she manages to make the ball stop very close to the jack. Both leads are done and India has a one point lead.

Pinki is unable to extend India’s advantage but the women in blue win the second end anyway.

The score is 1-1 with three more ends to go in Set 1.

July 25, 2026 15:53

Tonga takes the lead

Lead Rupa Rani is done with her three attempts in End 1. And it’s advantage Tonga as Baker has put her team in a strong position to score at least two points at the moment.

Eyes on Pinki and Milika Nathan now.
