Ruben Amorim shocked by Manchester United stars, he needs to lean on one of Sir Alex Ferguson's teams biggest strengths

Ruben Amorim has been left shocked just months after becoming Manchester United head coach.

After a decade of mismanagement, Ruben Amorim picks up the pieces and tries to assemble them.

Manchester United’s 2-0 defeat to Crystal Palace on Sunday was the seventh loss in 13 Premier League games under Amorim, with the Reds positioned in 13th place with a -6 goal difference.

The best chance of silverware this season comes in the FA Cup and Europa League, after United were knocked out in the quarter-final of the Carabao Cup.

Amorim and his coaching staff have spent their first few months at the club assessing the squad as well as laying the foundations for future success. The head coach has already called this iteration of United ‘the worst in history’ after losing to Brighton & Hove Albion.

That was a ballsy thing to say in the public sphere and Amorim has shown utmost honesty since taking the job.

Ruben Amorim shocked by Manchester United players

If he’d stayed at Sporting CP, Amorim would likely be competing for back-to-back league titles. He ditched Portugal for Manchester, where Manchester United are sat in the bottom half of the Premier League.

The results haven’t picked up since he got the job, which adds pressure on the head coach.

MORE UNITED STORIES

According to GiveMeSport, Amorim has been shocked by how United freeze at Old Trafford.

United have suffered seven home defeats in the league so far this season. It doesn’t help that the team is lacking a goalscorer to win football matches.

In turn, this piles even more pressure on players like Amad Diallo and Bruno Fernandes because Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee are struggling in front of goal.

Amorim needs to make Old Trafford a fortress

Old Trafford was a fortress once upon a time, but these days, lesser teams visit with the feeling they can cause an upset.

The biggest example if Crystal Palace who have four wins from their last four trips to Old Trafford. On top of that, United failed to score a single goal in any of those games against the Eagles.

United have only managed to beat Southampton and Everton at home in the league under Amorim, losing to Forest, Bournemouth, Newcastle, Brighton and Palace.

To be successful at United, Amorim must make Old Trafford a fortress once again, once a strength of Sir Alex Ferguson’s great Manchester United sides.

Losing matches at home could prove disastrous in the long term, creating more and more doubt, and this is an issue the head coach needs to fix urgently.
