'Terrible Loser' - Arne Slot Slammed For 'Salty' Claim After Liverpool 1-2 Man Utd

Arne Slot has been slammed for his comments following Manchester United's 2-1 victory against Liverpool. The Dutchman was not particularly complimentary of the visitor's style of play, which has led to rival fans criticising him.

After conceding just 63 seconds into the tie thanks to Bryan Mbeumo's finish, the hosts rallied and attempted to get back into the match. Having struck the woodwork three times, Cody Gakpo thought he'd given the Reds the platform to go on and win the game with his equaliser, but Harry Maguire then headed home to secure three points for the visitors.

The loss means that Liverpool have lost four consecutive games in all competitions and sees them slip to third in the table, four points behind league leaders Arsenal. Slot now has several questions to answer as he bids to prevent the dip in form from continuing.

GIVEMESPORT Key Statistic: Liverpool have lost four consecutive games for the first time since November 2014.

Slot's 'Salty' Interview Following Man Utd Loss

However, before he answers any of those problems, Slot was first required to complete media obligations following the match's conclusion. While he said that there were "no excuses" in his interview with Sky Sports, the Dutchman did seemingly take a shot at Amorim's setup by making the bold claim that they played low block, long ball football.

"If you play United - who come here with a low block and playing a lot of long balls and you know that is going to be difficult as it's not easy to play through them and you don't get the chance to win the ball high up - and you concede after one or two minutes, it makes it harder."

Slot built on these comments in a separate interview, saying: "It's always difficult to defend against a team that defends in a low block, that mainly plays long balls. But it makes it even more difficult when you go 1-0 down after one minute when a player of ours is on the floor.

"If you would have told me before the game that against the low block, against the team that plays so many long balls, we would have created as many chances as we did, I would not have expected us to lose this game of football."

He also added: "We've seen Sesko play the last three, four five or six times, but they go to Liverpool they change the line-up. That's not the first where we've faced a team and they've done that."

Those comments have not gone down well with The Sun's Manchester United correspondent Samuel Luckhurst, who believes that Slot draws comparisons to former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp when it came to losing. He wrote on Twitter: "First thing Slot mentions in his Sky chat is Manchester United's 'low blocks' and 'long balls'.

"He has a few things in common with his predecessor and sour grapes is one of them. A terrible, terrible loser."

And that sentiment was echoed by fans, with one writing, "Slot is worse than Klopp. Everything is down to teams playing low block and apparently opposition playing long balls. He is so bitter." Another added: "Slot genuinely appears perturbed when absolutely anything goes against the scheme of things he believes is correct."

Slot will be less than happy about his side's slide in form and will hope to get back to winning ways as quickly as possible. He'll have the opportunity to boost morale on Wednesday night when Liverpool face Frankfurt in the Champions League.
