As Nottingham Forest manager Vitor Pereira joins the club, Forest sit three points above the relegation zone in 17th place, with qualification to the Europa League round of 16 to be decided in the next week.

Pereira was asked what kind of impact he can make mid-season.

"I cannot change a lot in this moment of the season, it's about to put the players comfortable playing in the roles I'm demanding," Pereira said.

"It's important he players feel they can help the team with their qualities.

"It's important they express themselves."

'Mistakes are part of life'

Nottingham Forest manager Vitor Pereira was fired by Wolves in November, with the midlands club bottom of the Premier League table on two points.

Pereira had taken the helm in the middle of the previous season, charged with steering Wolves to safety, which he achieved for the 2024-2025 season.

At his first press conference as Forest boss, Pereira was asked about his time at Wolves.

"I made mistakes - and the club," Pereira said.

"What I want to say, what a fantastic experience for me. They made me feel a family.

"Mistakes make part of life, we know we need to learn and move forward.

"What I want to say about this league is this is a league which you must have everything to compete it. It does not give you time to delay decisions.

"If you do, you will pay."

Will it be 'win, pub, repeat' for Pereira at Forest?

At Wolves, Vitor Pereira had the habit of celebrating wins by "being with the people".

"First the points, then the pints" was a phrase coined by the manager with the words even adorning a banner at Molineux, and he endeared himself to the supporters, and the city, with his desire to understand them and the area.

Trips to the local Wetherspoons near the train station after victories became a fixture - with Molineux serenading him with 'We'll see you in 'Spoons' during games.

"What do we do in Wolverhampton after a game? If I lose the game I stay home and drink my beer alone. If I win the game, I go with the supporters to celebrate," Pereira told BBC Sport last May.

"The connection with the people is stronger when we suffer together and, when you are in a situation where you are fighting for survival, you feel this connection.

"In Wolverhampton, where do you want me to go? I must go to a pub, because this is the culture and where people go.

"When I go to a pub it's not about the beer. Of course I like the beer but I go to be with the people, to feel that I'm doing something to make them happy, to make them proud.

"Work, home, then we go to a pub just for a beer or two beers and finish. This is our life."

Nottingham Forest manager Vitor Pereira was asked about club owner Evangelos Marinakis. In 2015, Pereira won the double at Greek side Olympiacos, where Marinakis has been a majority stakeholder since 2010.

"He is ambitious, he wants to win," Pereira said. "Emotional, I know him very well.

"The conversation was about our time in Olympiacos. I remember the energy and the fire we created, in Greece there is a fire inside, they like to see the energy.

"He asked me to be myself, he liked the way when we worked together we won the league and cup.

"It was in the middle of the season and we created a good relationship. he trusts my work, I trust his personality. I think we need passion too."

'The Premier League punishes mistakes'

Pereira was asked what he learned during his time at Wolves.

"I learned this is a league which we cannot make mistakes in," he said.

"The mistakes will punish us. The league will punish the teams and the clubs who make mistakes.

"The high level of this league has conditions to compete and in a small detail you and lose. In a second you can lose and in a second you can win."

'I believe in club's potential and president's ambitions'

Nottingham Forest manager Vitor Pereira was asked about the problems that other managers had at the club which led the club to this moment.

He said: "I prefer to speak about the present and the future. It's difficult season for the players because they have different methodologies and managers.

"I believe the reason why I accept this job is because I believe in the quality of the players, the potential of this club, the ambition of the president [Evangelos Marinakis]. This the best league, as I said before, in the world.

"I really believe in our work and together we can increase our level."

Can Pereira save struggling Forest?

Fenerbahce v Nottingham Forest (Thu, 17:45 GMT)

Nottingham Forest sacked Nuno Espirito Santo just three games into the season in September.

It came after he declared his relationship with club owner Evangelos Marinakis had deteriorated, despite finishing seventh in the Premier League and qualifying for Europe last season.

Former Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou was then appointed as his successor but the Australian lasted only 39 days after failing to win any of his eight league games in charge - drawing two and losing six.

Sean Dyche's arrival in October appeared to bring stability, winning seven of his opening 12 games, but the poor recent run saw Forest fail to pull away from danger, with players unconvinced by his methods.

Several were summoned to see owner Marinakis after the goalless draw with bottom side Wolves which was followed by Dyche's departure after 114 days in charge.

Forest are three points above the Premier League relegation zone with 12 games remaining, with 18th-placed West Ham's recent uptick in form piling more pressure on the club.

Pereira's career so far

Vitor Pereira has returned for another spell in English football, having been sacked by Wolves last November after 11 months in charge.

At Wolves, he who won 14 of his 38 games to help them stay up in the Premier League last season, though he was sacked three months ago with the club on two points from their first 10 league matches.

Pereira has previously worked under Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis at Greek club Olympiacos, where he won the league title and Greek Cup in 2014-15 in his six months in charge, before leaving for Fenerbahce, who he will face in his first game in charge of Forest.

He started his managerial career with Portuguese club Sanjoanense in 2004 and, following spells in Germany, China, Brazil and Saudi Arabia, he embarks on his 15th role.

Groundhog Day was earlier this month in America but it feels a regular occurrence at Nottingham Forest this season.

Vitor Pereira is Forest's fourth manager of the season after signing an 18-month deal to save them from relegation.

After Nuno Espirito Santo's sacking, Ange Postecoglou was unveiled as he walked down the tunnel in September while Sean Dyche held his photoshoot in the club's Trent End museum.

Dyche was dismissed last week after 114 days having struggled to win over the squad and the fans - despite results suggesting he would be able to keep the club up.

Pereira inherits a side three points above the relegation zone and takes them to Fenerbahce - a former club - in the Europa League in his first game in charge on Thursday.

It is just 161 days since Nuno was axed which feels like a lifetime in the cycle of Nottingham Forest.
