Jessica Pegula makes an unsurprising announcement regarding the Singapore Open

American tennis star Jessica Pegula withdrew from the WTA 500 Singapore Open scheduled to begin on September 21.

Fans that watched the 32-year-old's US Open semifinal match against Aryna Sabalenka were not surprised by the news.

Pegula did not look like herself in that match. She seemed flat and low energy compared to how she normally plays. Some argued it was Aryna Sabalenka's performance that caused her to look that way.

Pegula's mystery bandages during US Open run

Another reason the announcement is not shocking is because Pegula showed up at various US Open matches with mystery bandages on her body.

There was one on her shin in the quarterfinals.

A bandage was on her upper leg near the quadricep in the semifinal. These bandages were never explained. While they could be unrelated with no correlation to her Singapore Open announcement, they were still noteworthy.

Where is Pegula in WTA Finals race

The top eight ranked singles players are competing for spots at the WTA Finals in Indian Wells beginning November 8.

Pegula is currently ranked World No. 3 and appears to be on solid footing to qualify for the WTA Finals.

Gauff, ranked fourth, and Pegula are the only two American women in the running for the WTA Finals. Amanda Anisimova is sitting outside contention at World No. 11.

However, there is still a lot of tennis to be played in the next two months.
